PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

One of the most important parts of ensuring that your workers are safe is making sure that their personal protective equipment is up to date and functioning properly.

EYE AND FACE PROTECTION

• Safety glasses or face shields are worn anytime work operations can cause foreign objects from getting into the eye, such as during cutting, grinding, when working with concrete and/or harmful chemicals, or when exposed to flying particles.
• Eye and face protectors are selected based on anticipated hazards.
• Safety glasses or face shields are worn when exposed to any electrical hazards, such as working on energized electrical systems.

FOOT PROTECTION

• Construction workers should wear work shoes or boots that have slip-resistant and puncture-resistant soles.
• Safety toe footwear should be worn to prevent crushed toes when working around heavy equipment or falling objects.

HAND PROTECTION

• Gloves should fit snugly in order to prevent them getting caught or falling off.
• Workers need to wear the right gloves for the job, such as welding gloves for welding or heavy-duty rubber gloves for concrete work.

HEAD PROTECTION

• Workers should wear hardhats anytime there is a potential for objects falling from above, bumps to the head from fixed objects, or accidental head contact with electrical hazards.
• Hardhats need to be routinely checked for dents, cracks, or deterioration.
• Hardhats need to be replaced after a heavy blow or electrical shock.
• It is very important to make sure that all hardhats remain in good condition.
